Starters and Ignition Repair in Charlotte
If your high-performance engine has a starter that struggles to turn over, it may be due to the intense engine compression ratio. Standard OEM starters might not meet the demands of high-performance vehicles, which require more cranking power. Consider upgrading to a high torque starter and ignition system for that extra boost. These starters are smaller and lighter, offering better clearance and reliability whether on the track or in your driveway. Let Leo's Auto Care enhance your vehicle's start-up with a high-amp battery and a high-torque mini starter.

Why the Starting System is So Important
Your vehicle’s starting system is responsible for getting your engine running every time you turn the key or press the start button. Without it, your vehicle simply won’t operate. Keeping this system in good condition helps ensure reliability and prevents unexpected breakdowns. In short it:
- Ensures your engine starts quickly and consistently
- Supports proper communication between the battery, starter, and ignition components
- Helps prevent being stranded due to unexpected failure
- Contributes to overall vehicle reliability and performance
- Reduces the risk of more costly repairs caused by neglected issues
Common Signs You Need Starter Repair
If your starting system begins to fail, your vehicle will often show warning signs. Recognizing these issues early can help prevent a complete breakdown and ensure your vehicle remains dependable. Signs include:
- Engine won’t start or takes multiple attempts to turn over
- Clicking noise when turning the key or pressing the start button
- Dashboard lights turn on, but the engine does not start
- Intermittent starting issues that come and go
- Grinding noise when attempting to start the engine
Ignition Repair FAQs
What are the common signs that my ignition needs repair?
Customers often inquire about what symptoms indicate a problem with the ignition system. Common signs include the car failing to start, the key not turning in the ignition, unexpected stalling of the vehicle, and the engine not cranking despite turning the key. These symptoms suggest issues with the ignition switch, the starter motor, or other related components.
How much does it typically cost to repair an ignition system?
The cost of ignition repair can vary widely depending on the specific issue and the vehicle make and model. Generally, costs can range from a simple repair of a few hundred dollars to more extensive replacements that could exceed a thousand dollars. Customers are advised to get a detailed diagnostic to understand the precise problem and associated costs.
How long does an ignition repair take?
The duration of an ignition repair can depend on the complexity of the issue and the availability of any necessary parts. Typically, simple repairs might take a few hours, while more complex issues that require part replacements can take a full day or longer. It's best for customers to consult with their service provider for a more accurate time estimate based on their vehicle's condition.

Martin is the best mechanic I’ve found in Charlotte! I had my ac compressor go bad and he fixed it for a low price. I was originally quoted about $1600-$2000 from other mechanics. And Martin offered me $1200! The nice lady at the front desk always is great too! Somehow the part he initially ordered was bad for some reason, but he swapped it out with a brand new part, replaced the fluids, and put a belt on -with no extra charges! The warranty is included for a year as well. Definitely going back if I have any other issues with my car! Lowest price for mechanical maintenance! Thanks Again! Alise Jones, 05/19/2026 |
This rating isn't about the quality of the work since the owner/mechanic advised that the quote I got somewhere else was reasonable. This rating is based on the interactions and integrity of the owner/mechanic, and my first experience ever at a shop where I didn't feel like someone was trying to take advantage of me. While I didn't get my repair done at his shop, he came out and did a visual inspection of my vehicle. After his assessment, he gave me a very honest rundown about his prices relative to a direct competitor for what I was trying to get fixed. I would HIGHLY recommend bringing your car here first to get an unbiased opinion from someone who takes pride in what they do, and then determine if you still need to look elsewhere for quotes. After one visit, Leo's Auto is firmly in my extremely short list of mechanics that I will turn to with confidence in the future. Chris Kee, 05/12/2026 |
